Welcome! With the energy and creative spirit of nearly 1000 people working on more than 30 different teams, together we can make T/F 2019 a great fest!

Please complete the following application as accurately as possible.  Because this application is designed to screen OUT candidates without enough time to work for a particular team, you should enter your time availability FIRST and with as much breadth as possible before selecting three team preferences.  General volunteers work up to 20 hours and Juggernauts up to 40 hours.  Some teams require candidates above a certain age (ie. event party workers, or chauffeurs), or with particular skills (ie. operating power tools or a sound board), so please answer all questions about your qualifications.

If you have never volunteered for the festival before – We’re grateful that you are willing to donate your time! Please take a few minutes to read a short introduction and some basic information to consider before filling out your application (click on the blue button above!).

If you are a returning volunteer – Thank you and welcome back! Your experience and hard work over the past decade-plus is one of the reasons that film lovers regard True/False as one of the most fun, inventive and community-oriented film festivals in the world. As a returning volunteer, please be sure to respond to queries about your past T/F experiences, and also indicate if you have been recruited for a specific team by noting the team name and the name of your team leader on the application.

ALL PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS - Once you’ve completed and submitted this form, you will receive a message from T/F confirming receipt of your application. Once your application has been reviewed, we'll send you a confirmation of approval, or we may ask you to expand your time availability to qualify as a volunteer.  Remember, you should apply early for the best chance at being placed on your choice of team.

Thanks for your time!

Cathy Gunther and Heather Gillich

Volunteer Coordinators

Give us 20 hours and we'll give you our heartfelt thanks, a volunteer pass, and an official volunteer t-shirt. Your pass grants you admission to films via the Q at all festival venues and admission to T/F 2019 documentaries shown at Ragtag Cinema throughout the year. You'll also be admitted to a Volunteer Screening (SAT Feb 16 after training) and to the Volunteer Party (SUN Mar 3 10pm-2am).

Are you looking for a whirlwind of crazy fun and hard work? Well, we're looking for a group of dedicated, resourceful, and hard-working superstars who are willing to pour 40+ hours of love into the True/False universe. Hours may be completed before, during, or after the Fest, and you can apply to work in any area (though some teams have more Juggernaut spots than others). In addition to the perks of a General Volunteer, Juggernauts also get to pick up 3 tickets on Friday morning of the fest and receive 3 vouchers to move to the head of the Q for films of their choice. In the week following the Fest, we also schedule a mini-festival of this year's T/F docs at Ragtag JUST FOR YOU! Sound like fun? If so, select Juggernaut on the form and briefly tell us why you want to become one. We're always looking for more Juggernauts with availability during the four days of the Fest (Feb 28-Mar 3), so if you're willing to clear your calendar, we've got a job for you. Please reference special skills, preferences, or projects that interest you.

Preferred for Juggernaut volunteer applicants

ALL APPLICANTS:  Some days show substantial overlap in time frames to select, due to the fact that different teams need volunteers at different times each day.  PLEASE CHECK the box for as many of the windows of time as you are available, and not just the times when you would prefer to work.  If you don't indicate adequate time availability to serve on a particular team, you will not be given an opportunity to select that team on this application.

INVITED RECRUITS:  If you have been recruited for a team, you still need indicate your availability and to select 3 preferred teams in order to proceed through the application.  Once your acceptance is approved by the Team Lead who recruited you, you will be placed with that team in lieu of the other preferences you selected.

There are volunteer opportunities in many very different work teams. Click on a team name below to get a better idea of WHAT these volunteers do, WHEN they do it, and HOW MANY volunteers are needed. As teams are filled, they will be removed from the application.

Match the WHATs, WHENs of each team with YOUR particular skills, interests, and availability.   Select your TOP 3 team preferences. Based on our needs and your particulars, we’ll do our best to place you on one of these teams.

The Audio Tech Crew creates the sonic experience of the festival, so if you take tech seriously and have experience at the helm of a multi-channel soundboard, we're interested. AUDIO experience is REQUIRED to be part of the tech team, so please list yours in the Skills and Abilities section. How Many? 25
Volunteers in BoxTOps work as a mobile Box Office (Box = ticket sales) at individual theaters (TOps = Theater Operations) for attendees in the Q who need to buy a ticket on site. You must be quick on your feet and in your mind - handling cash, making change, and communicating an accurate tally of your earnings to TF staff. We prefer volunteers with cash handling and theater operations experience, particularly those who have worked BoxTOps in the past. How Many? 34
Do you boast brawn as well as brains? Willing to lift 100+ lbs with an able partner? This is the team for you! Shifts will be short, work will be difficult. How Many? 15
Do you revel in the opportunity to illuminate? Do you have theatrical lighting knowledge, however rudimentary? Become a JUGGERNAUT (40 h) lighting volunteer and help contribute support of the artistic vision of our Lighting Director. Some theatrical lighting experience is REQUIRED -- please indicate your experience in the "special skills" section below to be considered. How Many? 2
Help sell the coolest merch this side of the Missouri River. During your 20 hr commitment, you may set up or break down merch stations in the days before and after the Fest, or distribute and sell cool T/F goods to attendees. You may even get to model one of those fashionable T/F hoodies! Retail/cash register experience preferred. Requires some heavy lifting and standing for long periods of time. How Many? 40
Can you lift and carry heavy (50 lb) and/or awkward objects, problem solve, and are willing to get your hands dirty? The trusty Set Up/Break Down crew transforms festival venues into True/Falsian movie palaces before the Fest begins, then returns them to their humble origins after the Fest ends. Most SUBD hours are completed during weekDAYS and are before and after the Fest, so members of this team are generally able to get the full T/F experience with their volunteer pass. How Many? 90
Be part of the LARGEST (and arguably GREATEST) team of the fest! Theater Operations volunteers inhabit 8 festival theaters and keep them humming right along. You'll take tickets, manage lines, count seats, usher people into the theater, and interact with a public eager to see the best docs around. This is where the action is, with venues abuzz with filmmakers, musicians, and Columbia's finest passholders and attendees. Expect to be on your feet a significant amount of time, but also expect quiet times during screenings. How Many? 300
